I wouldn't have a problem with any of the 556 series of rifles, just know there are slight differences but they all go "bang". These are fun to learn about and we haven't talked about the p556. Then barrels switched from CHF to button rifling, still nothing to report accuracy or durability wise. Still no issues just cosmetics or someway of lowering machining, material and or labor costs seem to be reasons given. Contact Sig Sauer customer service at (603) 772-2302. Alternatively, the serial is listed on the certificate issued with every new Sig Sauer firearm purchase.

The JSxxxxxx was from about 2008 in about 2009 the serial numbers jumped to JTxxxxxx. But the easiest way is to look at the serial number. Sometime in 2008 production was "handed over" from swiss professionals to newly trained American labor and swiss parts replaced with newly manufactured USA vender parts. The '556 Classic SWAT' was a later release, and can still be found on the Sig 'discontinued rifles' web page. Now what the long term has shown is these early ones built in 2007, ER or 556-001 are the ones to get, replace with swiss furnature, ddles stock adaptor or go with easy ACE folding stock replacement option. All of my google fu research has come up with any pre JS 005xxx 4 screw top may have a slight cant to the rail (it is the rail, machined slighty off, not the reciever) but has mostly swiss parts and very nice welds, no issues with these, bad press due to canted pic rail, heavy "fishgill" furnature and off color reciever.
